SeaCure Docking Systems Inc. - History

Printable version

A little over 50 years ago plastics were gaining increasing attention by materials scientists and were finding their way into more and more consumer products. At that time someone in the boat building industry must have wondered whether plastic materials had any place in the fabrication of recreational vessels. Doubtless, many greeted this idea with skepticism. Nevertheless, today fiberglass and related plastic products completely dominate the recreational boat building industry. Plastics are also making strong inroads into the fencing and home siding markets.

In the arena of shoreline protection vinyl sheet pilings have gained broad acceptance as the material of choice in bulk heading projects. We believe the time has arrived for PVC pilings in the construction of residential docks and marinas. Given the high prices of waterfront property, owners demand products that provide longevity, functionality and aesthetically pleasing good looks that enhance the shoreline environment and help protect our waters.

Peter Mansfield, President of SeaCure™ Docking Systems, is a qualified mechanical engineer with decades of R and D experience and over 30 patents to his name. He has been the central figure in the development of ideas and techniques for the installation of dock piling systems using PVC pilings. Seventeen years ago he built a dock on his mother’s property on Anna Marie Island on the West Coast of Florida, using standard water pipe PVC for pilings. That dock is still fully functional and has had a 40’ powerboat moored to it for the last 8 years. It was the success of that project that led Peter to use PVC pilings for his own dock on Urbanna Creek in southeastern Virginia in the late 1990’s. It was at that point that he decided to explore commercialization of the concept.

SeaCure Docking Systems, Inc. was formed and now stands poised to promote and supply SeaCuretm PVC Pilings and SeaCuretm Built-in Piling Accessories, engineered products that function, look good and last.

SeaCure Docking Systems Inc. - Outlook

SeaCure™ is poised to achieve real penetration of the market for dock piling systems with its array of PVC products. Our pilings and caps are UV stabilized and chemically inert and are backed by a 20 year limited warranty. The fact that our PVC pilings are hollow, generates a series of advantages ranging from light weight and efficient driving, to housing lights, hoses, and power receptacles, including the ability to fill pilings with sand or concrete. In addition, we have developed the technique of sleeving older degraded pilings with PVC and can achieve this without disruption of the overall dock structure.

At SeaCure™ Docking Systems, we strongly believe that PVC products installed in the marine environment provide water front property owners with a competitive service life in addition to a clean and safe waterfront.
